Epilogue
Heath smiled as he waved to James’s parents while they were backing down his driveway, and then he moved to put his arm around his boyfriend. James jumped, but then relaxed back into Heath’s embrace. Heath couldn’t stop himself from laughing. “They’re happy for you and seemed to love me. Plus, Malcolm didn’t cause any of the mischief he kept teasing you about,” Heath said.
James’s dad backed his car into the little turn around area partway down the drive, and Alan waved and winked from the backseat. They sped off down the long drive to get back to the road and go over to Alan’s house, where they would all meet up again the next morning for breakfast.
James didn’t reply to what Heath had said, his gaze turned down to the book in his hand. His mother had brought along a brand new copy of Wuthering Heights for him, and James had been holding it for about thirty minutes now, probably enjoying having something to fidget with, especially after his mother had gone on and on before giving him the present about how romantic she thought ghost stories were. She’d also loved Malcolm’s portrait, repeating many times that he would make a perfect Heathcliff or Rochester. She’d explained to James three separate times that Rochester was from Jane Eyre.
“Will she really check up to see if you’ve read it? I loved her, by the way,” Heath said.
“I love her, too, but she can be a bit much.” James looked up into Heath’s eyes. “You said your parents are pretty quiet?”
“Yeah, but they’ll warm to you.” He led James back into the house.
“Now I’ll finally get to read Wuthering Heights,” Malcolm said. “Our dear lover here just rereads his favorite parts. I’ve only read about half of it.”
Heath laughed. “I’d be honored to read it out loud to both of you. For a price.”
James put the book down and slid his arms around Heath’s neck. “And what exactly were you thinking?”
“Hmmm.” Heath took Jacob by the waist and pulled him close. “I’ll trade one chapter for one dance. With both of you.”
James smiled up at him. “Malcolm? Whatcha think?”
“Sounds perfect,” came Malcolm’s low reply.
Heath held James tighter as the man shuddered at Malcolm’s entry.
“There’s no music,” James said, his eyes going a bit darker, as they always did when Malcolm was inside him.
Heath began to sway. “Like we need it.” He held one of James’s hands to his heart with one hand and slid the fingers of his other hand just under the waistband of James’s jeans at the small of his back. James slid his free hand up under Heath’s shirt and lazily ran his fingers up and down Heath’s spine.
Sighing as they moved together, Heath kissed James’s temple and then his cheek. “I love you both so much.”
James turned his head to brush his lips to Heath’s neck. “And we love you.”
Heath gave the portrait a glance before looking down into James’s eyes and pouring all of his love
